📝 -work-journal-skill - Create daily logs from coding sessions

📋 What this tool does

This software tracks your work during coding sessions. It organizes your progress into daily logs, client updates, and notes for when you return to a project. It turns hours of technical work into a summary in 30 seconds.

💻 System requirements

🚀 How to install and run

  1. Visit the project download page to get the latest installation file.
  2. Locate the file named work-journal-setup.exe in your Downloads folder.
  3. Double-click the file to start the installation process.
  4. Follow the prompts on the screen. Select the default options.
  5. Click Finish when the installation ends.
  6. Open your Start menu, type the name of the tool, and press Enter to launch it.

🛠️ Setting up your first journal

When the app opens, it asks for the folder where you store your coding projects. Click the Browse button to select your folder. The application scans your coding workspace to detect active files.

The software creates a new folder in your documents directory to house your logs. This keeps your records separate from your code. You do not need to change any configuration files. The software handles the environment variables automatically.

📈 Creating your first report

Open the application while you work on your code. The interface shows a list of your recent changes. Click the “Generate Log” button to create a text file. This file contains a summary of what you accomplished.

If you have a client in mind, click the “Client Report” tab. The tool drafts an email or a document that highlights the value you added to the project today. You can copy this text directly into your communication tools.

🔄 Resuming work

When you return to a project after a break, click the “Session Resume” button. The software reads your last few logs. It prints a brief summary of where you left off. This helps you remember your tasks and keeps your focus sharp. This feature uses the history of your previous logs to build a context for your current session.

⚙️ Settings and preferences

You can change how the software labels your tasks. Go to the Settings tab to adjust the depth of the logs.

❓ Frequently asked questions

Does the software edit my code? No. The tool only reads your files to summarize your work. It leaves your source code unchanged.

Does this tool require an internet connection? The tool functions primarily offline. It only connects to the internet if you choose to sync your logs with an external cloud provider.

Can I track multiple projects at once? Yes. Open the Project Manager tab to add or remove folders from the tracking list.

How do I remove the software? Open your Windows Settings, go to Apps, find the application in the list, and click Uninstall. This removes the program files but leaves your logs intact in your documents folder.

🛡️ Privacy and security

The tool processes your data locally on your machine. Your code and your logs stay on your computer drive. No data is sent to external servers unless you enable specific sync features in the settings. You maintain full control over your project information.

📦 Troubleshooting

If the software fails to read your files, confirm that your project folder is not marked as read-only. Ensure your user account has permission to read files in that directory. If the application stops responding, restart the process from the Windows Task Manager. If issues persist, reinstall the software from the download page link above.
